We're all in it together and that means that we need to work together, listen and respect one another, and use our resources wisely.”.

Recent Projects and Committees

Although all policy and land use decisions are made by the five member board, each commissioner has duties beyond the formal decision making process.  Since there is no county manager, each commissioner is liaison to departments. In 2018, I am liaison to Human Resources and Public works. I also serve on the executive budget committee, as well as the long range budget committee.

Because of my work on the Highline Canal working group, I have been asked to chair a group of decision makers throughout Arapahoe County to discuss homelessness.

I am chair of the Arapahoe County Behavioral Health Justice coordinating committee, and this year we are working on racial disparities in the judicial system, using trauma informed care, and adopting a co-responder model. All of these projects are aimed at reducing the numbers of people with mental illness that are incarcerated.

Chair of Opportunity Works! A committee of the Arapahoe/Douglas workforce board that seeks ot provide internships, apprenticeships and on the job training for people who are under employed or unemployed. The goals of the committee are to raise the income to a livable wage.

Chair of the Colorado Counties Inc (CCI) Justice and Public Safety Committee, which reviews legislation and recommends bills to be supported.

Chair of Rocky Mountain Partners, the state-wide crisis hotline.

Secretary of the Aurora Board of Mental Health

Member, Aurora Chamber Board, legislative, transportation and diversity council

Member, Colorado Workforce Council

Member, Courthouse Security Commission

Member, Health Steering committee, National Association of Counties

Responsibilities

The Board of County Commissioners serves as the administrative and policy-making body for Arapahoe County. The commissioners are elected by voters to represent five districts, each divided by population. The board oversees departments, approves the budget, hires the management team, administers county services, and oversees land-use planning and development within unincorporated Arapahoe County.

Each year the board sets the budgets for all departments and offices including the offices of the other elected officials including, the Clerk and Recorder,  Sheriff,  Assessor,  Treasurer, Coroner and District Attorney. The county has 2,070 employees.
